    Lip Augmentation

    Lip Augmentation

Lip augmentation procedures increase the size of the lips to make them fuller and more attractive. The procedure is used to help women and men of all ages. The upper or lower lip may be treated singly, or both upper and lower lip may augmented at the same time. Lip augmentations have become increasingly popular in recent years. Some types of lip augmentation involve the insertion of natural or synthetic materials.

Injections involve filling the lip with a soft substance to create a fuller appearance. Collagen, Hyaluronic acid and Poly-L-Lactic acid are the most widely used injectable substances.

    Collagen

It is a popular temporary lip enhancer that gives a more sensuous look to the lips. Prepared from the collagen found in cow skin, collagen injections are used to temporarily augment the lips. Although it is purified, this collagen may cause allergic reactions in some people. For that reason, a sensitivity test should be performed before the actual lip augmentation procedure. Collagen is guaranteed by the manufacturer to be BSE-free.

Collagen is injected into the lip with a small needle. Because the body slowly absorbs the collagen, the results generally last between six and seven months. The procedure may be repeated as needed.

    Hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid gel is naturally found in the body and does not require allergy test. It is totally safe material, tested and it is injected to the lip with small needles. It is absorbed about six to ten months after treatment. The procedure is painless and you are able to resume daily activities immediately.

    Poly-L-Lactic acid

It is a relatively new substance, that acts by irritating the cells to produce new collagen. The results are visible after one month. The product itself is not permanent but the effects can be long lasting. Sculptra® is therefore used more as a sculpting agent and tissue stimulator, rather than just a wrinkle filler. It also has an FDA approval for treating HIV-induced facial lipodystrophy.
